D-backs named 2013 Community Champion

D-backs to receive award at 26th annual IMPACT Awards on May 14

PHOENIX - The Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce (GPCC) has selected eight deserving local companies as recipients of its 26th annual IMPACT Awards. Since 1988, the IMPACT Awards have celebrated the impact outstanding companies have on the Valley's business community and economy. This year, the GPCC will recognize two recipients in each of four categories: Community Champion, Economic Driver, Entrepreneurial Excellence, and Response to Adversity. The 2013 IMPACT Businesses of the Year will be selected from these honorees and announced at a luncheon on May 14 at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa.

"It is a tremendous honor to be seen as a community champion in the eyes of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce," said D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall. "We pride ourselves on giving back to the community each and every day and to be recognized for doing so is very special."

In 2013, the D-backs and the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation surpassed $33 million in charitable donations since their inception in 1998. The majority of funds are raised through events such as the annual Evening on the Diamond Gala, 50/50 Raffle, D-backs Celebrity Golf Classic, D-backs Race Against Cancer, License Plate Program, Chase Field Tour Program, Mystery Ball, On-line Auctions and major gifts from players and partners in the community.

The mission of the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation is to support three main areas of need: homelessness, indigent healthcare and children's programs of all types, including education and youth baseball field development. The foundation, in partnership with APS, recently dedicated its 33rd field in the Diamonds Back program and last year teamed up with University of Phoenix to hand out $250,000 in grants to schools across the state as part of the D-backs School Challenge.

Also in 2012, the D-backs created an employee-driven community service program titled the "D-backs Give Back League" which featured nine groups working on separate projects to help improve the Arizona community. The nine teams combined to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars with more than 2,650 hours of time volunteered by D-backs employees.
