PHOENIX -- Right-hander Stefan Crichton was called up from Triple-A Reno on Saturday as the team placed right-hander Matt Andriese on the 10-day injured list with a left foot contusion.

This will be Crichton’s third stint with the D-backs. He has a 4.50 ERA in eight relief appearances.

Andriese was hit in his left foot by a comebacker in Friday night’s game. He stayed in the game and an X-ray later showed there was no fracture in his foot.

“These athletes want to grind through everything and he told us he was fine,” D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said Saturday. “We’re glad it wasn’t broken. He had some imaging done and everything was OK. But it just swelled up on him after the game last night, he got a little bit uncomfortable.”

In other injury news, right-hander Luke Weaver, who is on the IL with a mild right flexor pronator strain and a mild right UCL sprain, played catch from 90 feet for five minutes, an increase of 15 feet from his last session.

Meanwhile, outfielder David Peralta is nearing a rehab assignment after an “aggressive” batting-practice session, Lovullo said. Peralta is out with inflammation in his right AC joint.

Clarke stays ... for now

Lovullo said that Taylor Clarke will stay in the rotation to make his next start Wednesday afternoon against the Orioles, but indicated the right-hander would need to pitch better to hang onto the spot.

“We’re going to be paying close attention that spot for sure,” Lovullo said.

Clarke lasted just 3 2/3 innings and allowed four runs against the Brewers Friday night, his first start after spending a couple of weeks on the IL with a lower back issue.

Young on the other hand

After each of his last two starts, rookie lefty Alex Young has not been assured of staying in the rotation.

But as he continues to stack one outstanding start after another, that will change.

Over his last two starts, Young has allowed one run and three hits over 11 1/3 innings.

“It’s harder and harder for me to say that he doesn’t deserve the chance to stay in there and continue to pitch,” Lovullo said. “At some point we’re not going to talk about it anymore.”
