D-backs Rule 5 Draft selections

The Arizona Diamondbacks selected RHP Nick Green (@ngreeny12) in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft. Arizona also selected OF Jeffrey Baez in the Triple-A phase. The D-backs' 40-man roster is now at 38.

Green, 23, combined to go 8-7 with a 3.32 ERA (49 ER in 132.2 IP), 102 strikeouts and a .235 opponent average in 23 starts with Single-A Advanced Tampa and Double-A Trenton in the Yankees' organization in 2018. He was named to the Florida State League midseason All-Star Team after going 7-5 with a 3.28 ERA (42 ER in 115.1 IP) in 20 starts with Tampa.u5:p

Green also limited left-handers to a .207 average (50-for-241) last season and pitched at least 6.0 innings in 14 of his 23 starts, including 7.0 scoreless frames with 1 hit allowed in his final outing on August 29 @ Altoona.u5:p

In 5 Minor League seasons in the Rangers (2014-2016) and Yankees' (2016-18) systems, Green was 26-25 with a 4.06 ERA (178 ER in 395.0 IP), 320 strikeouts and a .245 opponent average in 85 games (75 starts). He was selected by the Rangers in the seventh round of the 2014 draft and traded to the Yankees on August 1, 2016 with RHP Dillon Tate and RHP Erik Swanson for OF Carlos Beltran.u5:p

Baez, 25, hit .262 (67-for-256)/.346 OBP/.414 SLG with 14 doubles, 2 triples, 7 home runs, 30 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 88 games with Double-A Tennessee in 2018 and was named a Southern League midseason All-Star. A native of El Tigre, Venezuela, the 6-foot-0, 180-pounder is a career .260 hitter with 105 doubles, 26 triples 56 home runs, 265 RBI and 203 stolen bases in 633 games across 8 seasons in the Cubs' organization. He signed with the Giants as a Minor League free agent on November 5. u5:p
