D-backs select contract of Lopez from Jackson, transfer Lamb to 60-day DL

The Arizona Diamondbacks selected RHP Yoan López from Double-A Jackson and transferred INF Jake Lamb to the 60-day disabled list (left rotator cuff strain).

PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks selected RHP Yoan López (pronounced: YO-on) (@leyva_yoan) from Double-A Jackson and transferred INF Jake Lamb to the 60-day disabled list (left rotator cuff strain). The D-backs have 32 players on their active roster and the 40-man roster is at 40.

López, 25, is getting his first stint in the Major Leagues and will wear No. 50. He pitched for the World Team at the Futures Game on July 15 and struck out the lone batter he faced. At the time of his promotion, he led Southern League relievers in opponent average (.174) and strikeouts per 9.0 IP (12.70) and ranked fourth in fewest baserunners per 9.0 innings (9.92).

He has held opponents scoreless in 9 of his last 12 games, since July 26, with a 0.53 ERA (3 R-1 ER in 17.0 IP), .074 opponent average (4-for-54), 4 walks and 18 strikeouts. In 22 games after the All-Star break, since June 22, he was 0-2 with 7 saves, a 2.01 ERA (7 ER in 31.1 IP), .148 opponent average and 41 strikeouts.

Overall, in 45 relief appearances at Jackson, he was 2-6 with 12 saves, a 2.92 ERA (20 ER in 61.2 IP), .174 opponent average, 1.04 WHIP and 87 strikeouts. He has held righties to a .148 average (22-for-149) and 58 strikeouts while lefties have hit .229 (16-for-70) and 29 strikeouts. With runners on base, opponents are hitting .176 (18-for-102) with 43 strikeouts, and with runners in scoring position, opponents are hitting .197 (15-for-76) with 32 strikeouts.

López signed with the D-backs on January 16, 2015 as a Minor League free agent. Over parts of 4 seasons in the D-backs system (2015-18), he has appeared in 93 games (26 starts) and is 10-19 with a 3.65 ERA (86 ER in 212.1 IP), .223 opponent average and 224 strikeouts. He played 3 seasons with Isla de la Juventud in the Cuban Serie Nacional from 2011-14.

Lamb, 27, hit .222 (46-for-207)/.307 OBP/.348 SLG with 8 doubles, 6 home runs, 31 RBI, 26 walks and 34 runs scored in 56 games for the D-backs this season.
