Swanson swats a career-high five hits for Hops

D-backs No. 1 prospect is 10-for-20 in his past five games for Class A Short Season Hillsboro

2015 No. 1 overall Draft pick Dansby Swanson can now add a five-hit performance to his already impressive professional resume.

After collecting two hits in seven of his first 18 professional games, the Diamondbacks' No. 1 prospect went 5-for-6 with a triple and three runs scored on Thursday in Short Season Hillsboro's 12-0 rout over Boise.

The 21-year-old shortstop connected on his third triple of the season in the first inning and then singled in each of his next four at-bats for the Hops, but he struck out swinging in his final at-bat with two outs in the top of the ninth.

Fresh off an outstanding career at Vanderbilt, Swanson has been every bit as good as advertised this summer in his professional debut, batting .320 with a .929 OPS, 11 extra-base hits, 17 runs scored and 11 RBIs in 19 games for Hillsboro.

Baseball's No. 10 overall prospect has swung the bat particularly well of late, too, going 10-for-20 with a pair of extra-base knocks and six runs scored in his last five contests.

Given Swanson's success in the Northwest League, it wouldn't come as a surprise if the Diamondbacks assigned the top prospect to either Class A Advanced Visalia or Double-A Mobile to open the 2016 season.
