Chacin called up; Bradley off DL, to Triple-A

PHOENIX -- The D-backs made several roster moves on Monday, adding Jhoulys Chacin to the roster to start the series opener against the Cardinals, while optioning right-hander Zack Godley to Double-A Mobile.

In addition, the D-backs reinstated right-hander Archie Bradley from the 15-day disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Reno, while designating Reno infielder/outfielder Danny Dorn for assignment and unconditionally releasing veteran catcher Gerald Laird.

It was the culmination of a long journey for Chacin, who was released by the Rockies in Spring Training. He was signed by the Indians, but exercised an opt-out clause in his contract in June and was signed by the D-backs on June 20.

Chacin allowed three runs (two earned) in 6 1/3 innings in his D-backs debut, a 5-3 loss to the Cardinals. With Reno, he was 5-3 with a 3.39 ERA in 12 starts.

"I just think he's really earned this," D-backs manager Chip Hale said.

With Chacin starting Monday night, the D-backs were able to give all their starters an extra day of rest. Robbie Ray, who had been scheduled to start Monday, will now go Tuesday. Whether Chacin's addition means that Randall Delgado will go back to the bullpen after starting this past Saturday in Cincinnati will be decided in the next 24 hours, according to Hale.

Bradley, who had been on the DL with shoulder inflammation, will need to prove he's healthy and also have success in order to be called back up at some point.

"I think he has to pitch at least two more times to show that he's lengthened out to throw 100-something pitches and be effective," Hale said.

Laird opened the season on the 25-man roster, but an April back injury required surgery and he is just now finally healthy.
