SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- It took 10 innings, but the D-backs won their first Cactus League game of the spring as they beat the Rockies, 7-6, in a wild game at Salt River Fields.
D-backs manager Torey Lovullo was impressed with the approach of his hitters as the D-backs got homers from Jeremy Hazelbaker and Michael Perez.
Brad Boxberger, who is competing for the closer's role, threw a scoreless inning.
Left fielder Yasmany Tomas, who is fighting for a roster spot in the outfield, got caught in between on a sinking fly ball and it skipped behind him for a single and an error.

"We've talked about being aggressive on both sides of the ball and trying to make plays," Lovullo said. "And I know he hasn't been out there in a long time and is still trying to get his routes and his reads down pat. I think it's something in a week it probably would be a different type of an outcome."
Starters getting time
With position players having just had their first workout Monday, Lovullo wanted to wait a little bit before putting some of his regular everyday players in the lineup.
First baseman Paul Goldschmidt and outfielder A.J. Pollock should be in the starting lineup Saturday against the Indians.
"That's the plan," Lovullo said. "With the shortened time getting ready for the games I wanted to take as much time as I possibly could to allow those guys to prepare."
Not all the regulars though
A couple of exceptions to that are newcomers Steven Souza Jr. and Jarrod Dyson.
Lovullo said he knew when Souza would be in the lineup but wasn't going to share that just yet.

"I have it mapped out, but I haven't told him yet," Lovullo said. "He's going to be several more days. We're not going to rush him through any of this work that he's walking through. He was bouncing around, he was all over the place for a couple of days before joining us. The medical team felt like he was playing a little bit of catchup so we're going to take our time with him."
Dyson is coming off hernia surgery, which ended his season on Sept. 2 last year. Where Souza was acquired Tuesday, Dyson signed as a free agent Monday.
"Jarrod was working as hard as he possibly could, but coming off the little core injury we just wanted to make sure we were taking all the necessary steps to make sure that he's ready," Lovullo said.
A weekend of Zacks
Zack Godley is scheduled to start Saturday afternoon against the Indians at Salt River Fields. Albert Suarez, Archie Bradley, Yoshihisa Hirano, Jared Miller, Jake Barrett and Joey Krehbiel are also expected to pitch.
Hirano and Bradley are competing for the closer's role along with right-hander Boxberger.
Zack Greinke will start Sunday against the Brewers at Salt River Fields. Kris Medlen, Ryan Atkinson, Jake Buchanan and T.J. McFarland are also scheduled to pitch.
New number
Third-base coach Tony Perezchica will switch from No. 1 to No. 8 this year so that Dyson can wear No. 1.
