PHOENIX -- It's easy to become jaded when you play Major League Baseball and see your name everywhere.
But when they unveiled Paul Goldschmidt Field in Goodyear on Tuesday morning, the D-backs first baseman saw things differently.
"I was thinking about it from a kid's point of view," Goldschmidt said. "I know when I was their age if I was able to play on a field that was named after a Houston Astro or a Major League player, it would've been pretty cool. I would've looked forward to playing on it. So instead of looking at it from my point of view, I looked at it from their point of view."

Paul Goldschmidt Field is the 39th field in the "Diamonds Back" Youth Field Building Program, which is presented by APS.
"It's extra special because it's got Paul's name on it," D-backs president/CEO Derrick Hall said. "Somebody who has made such an impact not only on but off the field. I couldn't be more proud."

In partnership with APS, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and Goldschmidt, the field was given a new scoreboard, fencing, windscreen, sports lighting system and fixtures, irrigation system, sod, stabilizer and more general field updates with additional support provided by local contractors and businesses.
"Each one gets better than the last," APS president/CEO Don Brandt said.

There was picture-perfect weather for the event, which drew a nice crowd.
"I was really glad to see all the support," Goldschmidt said. "A lot of fans showed up, a lot of Diamondbacks employees. It was really cool to be able to open a brand-new baseball field. I didn't really know what to expect because I'd never been to anything like that, but it was really cool. It was an honor to have a field named after me."
