Skaggs tabbed to start for D-backs on Friday

NEW YORK -- The D-backs plan to recall left-hander Tyler Skaggs from Triple-A Reno on Friday to start that night's game against the Rockies at Chase Field.

Skaggs, who was scheduled to start Thursday for Reno, will be in his third stint with the D-backs this year. He was called up in late May as the designated 26th man to start a doubleheader game against the Rangers, and he made two other starts in a later stint in June.

"As it goes, the way we do things it seemed like he was in line to be the guy," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said. "He'll have a better idea of what he's up against. We're going to play a good Colorado team, and they're going to score a lot of runs, so he's going to have make good pitches on them. Hopefully he has an understanding of that and is able to execute."

Skaggs was 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in his three big leagues starts and 6-6 with a 4.26 ERA in 13 games (11 starts) for Reno.

In his last start for Reno, he tossed 8 1/3 scoreless innings while striking out 13.

Skaggs' name has come up in trade rumors recently, but a baseball source said the D-backs "have no interest" in moving the team's No. 1 prospect as ranked by MLB.com.
