D-backs activate Flores, option Cron to Triple-A

July 19th, 2019

PHOENIX -- The D-backs activated infielder from the injured list Thursday and optioned first baseman Kevin Cron to Triple-A Reno.

Flores had been on the injured list since suffering a fractured right foot on May 19. At the time of the injury he was hitting .281/.326/.398 with nine doubles and two homers.

During his rehab stint, Flores spent time in the Rookie Arizona League, as well as Reno, and hit a combined .500/.542/.682 in 24 plate appearances.

“He’s been swinging the bat extremely well and the reports that I’ve been reading have been very, very good,” said D-backs manager Torey Lovullo. “So it was time.”

Lovullo will work to juggle playing time between Eduardo Escobar, Jake Lamb and Flores.

Escobar will play third and second, Lamb will see time at first and third, while Flores will likely play second.
