D-backs award Zac Almond and Kevin Ginkel Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month for August

The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) named Rookie-Advanced Missoula C Zac Almond (@zacheryalmond) and Double-A Jackson RHP Kevin Ginkel (@ginks_sd) the organization's Minor League Player- and Pitcher-of-the-Month for August.
 
Almond, 22, hit .404 (38-for-94)/.447 OBP/.649 SLG with 8 doubles, 5 home runs, 20 RBI, 7 walks and 18 runs scored in 23 games for the Osprey in August, ranking among the Pioneer League leaders in average (3rd), home runs (T-3rd), on-base pct. (T-3rd), slugging pct. (4th), doubles (T-5th) and extra-base hits (6th, 13). A Pioneer League postseason All-Star, he reached base safely in 20 games last month and logged 12 multi-hit performances, including a 3-for-4 night with 2 homers and 3 RBI on August 22 vs. Grand Junction. A native of Richfield, N.C., the 6-foot-3, 210-pounder was selected by the D-backs in the 35th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
 
Ginkel, 24, did not allow a run in 10 games (14.0 IP) in August, going 3-0 with 3 saves, 20 strikeouts, 3 walks and a .149 opponent average. He also ranked among the Southern League leaders in wins (T-6th) and saves (T-7th) last month. Following the season, Ginkel will pitch for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League. A native of San Diego, Calif., the 6-foot-4, 210-pounder was selected by the D-backs in the 22nd round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Arizona. 
 
Every month during the season, the D-backs' Player Development staff chooses the player and pitcher most deserving of the honors based on nominations from coaches at each affiliate along with input from the Minor League coordinators.
