Magic moment: Young Dodgers fan gets signed ball

LOS ANGELES -- Magic Johnson is an owner of the Dodgers, but on Saturday night he sprang into action as a fan services ambassador.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Hanley Ramirez took a swing and miss and his bat went flying past Johnson's Dugout Club box seats and stopped at the feet of a young boy with his father.

When an usher retrieved the bat from the boy to return to the dugout (as they are instructed to do), nearby fans urged the usher to give the bat to the child.

Johnson turned around to see if anyone was injured and decided to substitute a baseball he autographed in place of the bat as a souvenir for the boy, then posed for photos before returning to his seat.

"I know I ducked, too, when I saw the bat come flying in our direction," Johnson said. "That's scary. I just wanted the kids and all the fans to know we care about them and we want them to have a great experience when they come to Dodger Stadium. I'm glad I was in a position to help."
