• One day after the Cardinals belted two long balls, the Dodgers followed suit with four homers Wednesday. Adrian Gonzalez went deep twice, and A.J. Ellis and Carl Crawford added one each. The Dodgers hit four or more home runs twice during the regular season (four at Colorado on July 3 and six vs. Arizona on Sept. 9).
• If the Dodgers are able to take both games in St. Louis, they would become just the 12th Major League team to come back from a 3-1 deficit to win a best-of-seven playoff series. The Cards are the only team to have been on the losing end of that series turnaround more than once, and it happened four times, in the 1968 and '85 World Series and the '96 and 2012 NLCS.
• This postseason, St. Louis lefty reliever Randy Choate has retired all of the batters he has faced, securing eight outs on just 20 pitches.
• With a 1-2-3 eighth inning, Brian Wilson preserved his 0.00 ERA through 16 career postseason games, and he extended his scoreless-innings streak in this year's postseason to six. Only John Rocker (20 2/3) and Joe Niekro (20) have thrown more October innings without surrendering an earned run.

• Edward Mujica made his second appearance of the postseason Wednesday, and he allowed a solo homer to Ellis. The embattled former closer has allowed 10 earned runs in his last 11 innings pitched.
• After leaving 27 runners on base in the first four games of this series, the Dodgers stranded just two runners Wednesday.
• The Dodgers' six runs were the most by either team in this series. The 10 runs between both clubs was also the highest offensive output through five games.
• The Cardinals went 10-for-35 on Wednesday and are now batting .178 (29-for-163) in the NLCS. St. Louis entered Game 5 with the second-lowest average of any LCS team in Major League history at .148. The Cards could still hit the lowest mark by an LCS winner, which was set at .183 by Oakland in 1974.
• Though they left Los Angeles with a loss, the Cardinals' top three hitters showed some signs of life for the struggling St. Louis offense. Matt Carpenter, Carlos Beltran and Matt Holliday combined to go 6-for-11 with two RBIs and a walk Wednesday.
• The 6-4 win marked the first victory for Zack Greinke this postseason. He has limited opposing batters to a .187 average (14-for-75) with two walks and 17 strikeouts in three starts.
