Hobbled by shin pain, Ethier gets bone scan

Dodgers order additional test for outfielder; club displaying caution with Bolsinger

March 21st, 2016

PHOENIX -- Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier, still on crutches three days after fouling a pitch off his right shin, had a bone scan taken Monday. The club said results won't be available until Tuesday morning.
Ethier was originally expected to miss two or three days, but the pain persisted and the club wanted the added test to look for damage that wasn't seen in the initial X-ray. Opening Day is two weeks away.
After Monday's 6-3 loss to the Mariners, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the concern with Ethier was a possible fracture that didn't show up in that initial X-ray.
Mike Bolsinger, the Dodgers' presumed fifth starter until he was scratched from Sunday's start, said his strained left oblique muscle was improved on Monday.
Roberts, however, said the club would be cautious with Bolsinger's return because of the tendency for oblique injuries to linger a month or longer, especially for pitchers.
Roberts again said Carlos Frias and Zach Lee were candidates to start in the fifth game of the season. Joe Blanton, who pitched three innings on Sunday, will remain in long relief.

Shortstop Corey Seager, who sprained his left knee 10 days ago, said he felt fine one day after his first extensive workout. Seager remains optimistic he can be ready for Opening Day.
Brandon Beachy, a fifth-starter candidate until experiencing arm soreness, was improved, and Roberts said he might resume playing catch in a day or two.
Adrian Gonzalez returned from a triumphant weekend with Team Mexico in the World Baseball Classic qualifier and went 1-for-2 on Monday against the Mariners.
