Beachy's arm sore day after start

Right-hander will be evaluated after few days of rest

March 20th, 2016

PHOENIX -- Brandon Beachy came out of his disappointing start on Friday with arm soreness on Saturday, a red flag for a pitcher who has undergone two Tommy John surgeries. He will be given a few days of rest while being evaluated.
Beachy threw two-plus innings against the D-backs, but that included a 40-pitch marathon second inning. He was removed after not retiring any of the three batters he faced in the third inning, when his fastball velocity dropped nearly three miles per hour.
After the game, Beachy was critical of his performance, saying he wouldn't use past injuries "as a crutch." When asked if he was healthy, he said: "Yeah, I think so."
A non-roster invitee, Beachy came to camp with reason for optimism, proclaiming that he was no longer rehabbing and wanted to be considered "a normal guy."
When Brett Anderson was lost to back surgery, Beachy seemed to have the inside track for the fifth-starter spot, a competition that seemingly is now down to Mike Bolsinger and Zach Lee.
Beachy, 29, came into Friday's start having allowed no runs in five innings with one other start and one relief appearance. But he walked four of the final 12 batters he faced on Friday, another sign that something was amiss.
On Monday it will be exactly two years since Beachy underwent a second Tommy John surgery while with Atlanta. He missed the entire 2014 season and spent most of 2015 at Triple-A Oklahoma City, also making two starts for the Dodgers and allowing seven runs in eight innings with five strikeouts and six walks.
