SEATTLE -- Right-handed reliever , designated for assignment by the Mariners on Wednesday, was claimed off waivers by the Dodgers on Friday. The move comes one day after Los Angeles signed his brother, outfielder , to a Minor League contract.
The 29-year-old pitched well in his two weeks on the Mariners' Major League roster, going 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA in 7 1/3 innings over five outings. But the Mariners needed a roster opening for spot starter on Wednesday and Goeddel was designated for assignment.
Goeddel was with the Rangers this spring and then signed a Minor League deal with Seattle just before the start of the regular season. He went 1-0 with four saves and didn't allow a run in nine appearances with Triple-A Tacoma before being promoted to the Mariners on May 3.
Prior to this season, the California native spent his first four seasons in the Majors with the Mets after being drafted in 2010 in the 24th round out of UCLA. Goeddel has a 5-4 record with a 3.78 ERA in 115 career outings, with 118 strikeouts and 43 walks in 112 innings.
