CLEVELAND -- The Dodgers are shutting down 20-year-old lefty phenom Julio Urias with left shoulder inflammation, and he is set to be examined by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
Urias was placed on the seven-day disabled list at Triple-A Oklahoma City, and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he is expected to get a scan by Thursday.
"It's a concern whenever you're talking about a pitcher's arm, especially his shoulder," Roberts said. "I think that with Julio, it's a good thing that we got ahead of it, and hopefully it's just inflammation where he's tired, and we'll allow it to dissipate."
Urias, who was MLBPipeline's No. 4 overall prospect in 2016, has a 5.40 ERA in five Major League starts this season after posting a 3.39 ERA in 77 innings last year. However, his last three appearances have come in Oklahoma City, for which he has made six starts this season.
"When he talks about his shoulder is sore, obviously there's some information there that we want to do our due diligence," Roberts said. "Once we get the scan, we'll know more. For us to immediately shut him down makes sense."
