Mattingly: Puig out 'at least a couple weeks'

LOS ANGELES -- Manager Don Mattingly said outfielder Yasiel Puig will be sidelined "at least a couple weeks," the closest the Dodgers have come to providing a timetable for Puig's return.

Puig has been troubled by a strained left hamstring since April 13. He missed four of the next five games, then went on the disabled list April 26.

He was eligible to be activated Sunday, but reinjured the leg playing for Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga on Friday night. An MRI exam on Monday confirmed the strain is not healed.

Mattingly called Puig "a rehab guy at this point," meaning he will continue to receive therapy in the trainer's room and not participate in on-field practice. Once he does return to the field, Puig will need to restart a rehab assignment to show the hamstring can hold up to Minor League game action before he is activated.

In Puig's absence, the bulk of the playing time in right field has gone to Andre Ethier, who went 5-for-5 Tuesday night and is hitting .329.
