LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers today placed catcher A.J. Ellis on the 15-day disabled list (left knee surgery) retroactive to April 6 and recalled catcher Tim Federowicz from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Federowicz appeared in 56 games with the Dodgers last season, hitting four home runs and driving in 16 runs, and has played in 66 big league games with Los Angeles since making his MLB debut in 2011. The 26-year-old was optioned to Albuquerque on March 22, but remained with the big league club for its games in Australia and the Freeway Series. He appeared in only one game with the Isotopes on April 4 at Tacoma, going 0-for-2 with a walk.

Earlier today, Ellis underwent a 20-minute arthroscopic procedure by Dr. Neal ElAttrache to debride the medial meniscus of his left knee. He will start his rehabilitation tomorrow and recovery is expected in 4-6 weeks.
