Bob Borkowski, an outfielder who played six seasons for the Cubs, Reds and Dodgers from 1950-55, passed away at the age of 91 on Saturday.
Borkowski was born in Dayton, Ohio, on Jan. 27, 1926. At 24, he made his Major League debut April 22, 1950, for the Cubs. His best season came in 1953, when he slashed .269/.328/.406 with seven home runs in 94 games for the Reds.
Midway through the 1955 season, Borkowski was traded to the Dodgers, and was a member of the 1955 World Series championship club in Brooklyn.
A visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Drive in Dayton, on Friday at 7 p.m. ET. A Catholic mass and funeral will take place Saturday at 10 a.m., at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 1509 Valley Street in Dayton.
