SAN FRANCISCO -- The Dodgers' historic spiral continued Monday night and well into Tuesday morning. In a game delayed twice by weather for a total of more than 3 1/2 hours, the last-place Giants' 8-6 win at AT&T Park extended the Dodgers' losing streak to a Los Angeles record 11 with their 16th defeat in 17 games.
The Dodgers' magic number to clinch the division was trimmed to 10 with Arizona's loss, but the 11-game losing streak is their longest since Brooklyn dropped a franchise-record 16 straight in 1944. The Dodgers still hold a 3 1/2-game lead over Washington for home-field advantage in the National League playoffs.
"I wouldn't say it's demoralizing, but it's disappointing," said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. "Our guys played hard, I thought we were going to win that game and we were in position to, but we couldn't hold the lead."

The game was delayed by rain and lightning at the start for 42 minutes and suspended after one batter for another two hours and 52 minutes. The Dodgers wanted the game to be postponed and played as part of a doubleheader Wednesday, but umpires and MLB officials received a favorable weather report and waited for the storm to pass.
"Typically with continued rain, the league makes a decision earlier," said Roberts. "We were mistaken with the weather and the forecast. To start and delay and have intermittent rain, this is very uncharacteristic. For us, [a doubleheader] was our choice, but it was out of our hands. That was more the league. We had our preference, but it was out of our hands."
When play resumed at 10:51 p.m. PT, the Giants switched from righty starter Chris Stratton to lefty Ty Blach and they gave him a 4-0 lead, but the Dodgers chased Blach when Corey Seager's two-run single capped a four-run fourth inning. Yasiel Puig homered for a 5-4 Dodgers lead in the top of the fifth, the Giants scored twice in the bottom of the inning off Josh Ravin and Tony Cingrani to regain the lead, Justin Turner's RBI double in the sixth tied it again and Hunter Pence broke the tie with a two-out RBI single in the sixth off Pedro Baez. The game ended at 2:11 a.m. PT.

The Dodgers used six relievers, with Baez, Ravin and Tony Watson allowing runs. Kenley Jansen, Brandon Morrow and Thomas Stripling weren't used. Baez allowed three hits, while Ravin had pinch-hitter Ryder Jones 0-2 before walking him to begin the two-run fifth inning. Baez has been tagged with losses in three of his last five appearances.
"Guys have got to go out there and not walk guys and make pitches," said Roberts.

The Giants savored the victory over their archrivals after losing their previous pair of games to the White Sox by the cumulative score of 21-2. Manager Bruce Bochy called those two games as possibly the worst performances by the Giants all season.
"To go out and get that kind of effort, it says a lot about them," Bochy said. "... It could have been easier to roll over at any time because I'm sure they're pretty beat up."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Law gets tough: Giants reliever Derek Law faltered with two outs in the sixth inning, when he walked Seager and yielded Turner's double that tied the score, 6-6. But Law rebounded as quickly as he sagged. After intentionally walking Cody Bellinger, Law retired Puig, who homered in his previous at-bat, on an inning-ending popup.
Early bombs: It didn't last long, but the Giants jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Dodgers starter Kenta Maeda, powered by home runs from Denard Span in the first inning and Jarrett Parker in the second inning, and a Pence triple leading off the third.

Span, who complemented his fifth career Splash Hit homer into San Francisco Bay with a fifth-inning, run-scoring single, willed himself into taking the game's adverse starting time in stride.
"When [Bochy] came in and said, 'We're starting at 10:50,' of course, my first thought was like, 'You got to be kidding me,' " Span said. "But then I thought about it. We're blessed to be playing this game and we're getting paid a lot of money. I'll go out there and give it everything I've got."

Dodgers:Clayton Kershaw gets the ball for Tuesday night's 7:15 p.m. PT start at AT&T Park, where he's pitched as well as he does at home. Kershaw is 12-4 with a 1.29 ERA at AT&T Park and 20-9 with a 1.62 ERA overall against the Giants. He last faced the Giants May 17, firing seven scoreless innings in a 6-1 win.
Giants:Johnny Cueto will confront familiar foes Tuesday when he faces the Dodgers beginning at 7:15 p.m. PT at AT&T Park. Cueto owns a 6-7 record with a 3.21 ERA in 16 career starts against the Dodgers, including 1-1, 5.21 in three outings this year. In nine home starts this season, Cueto is 2-2 with a 4.26 ERA.
