LOS ANGELES -- Hyun-Jin Ryu earned his first victory since 2014 and Alvin Toles and Chris Taylor homered as the Dodgers beat the Phillies on Sunday, 5-3, for their fourth consecutive win and their first series sweep of Philadelphia since 2012.
Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig misplayed Cesar Hernandez's first-inning fly ball into a triple and the Phillies scored on Freddy Galvis' single, which extended his hitting streak to 12. But the Dodgers tied it in the bottom of the inning when Justin Turner cashed in Toles' leadoff double with an RBI single, extending his hitting streak to 16.
"Ryu overcame that first misplayed ball in right; he threw the ball well," said manager Dave Roberts. "The pitch mix was really good, the change was really good. I thought he pitched well."

Taylor homered off Phillies starter Nick Pivetta, who was making his Major League debut, in the second inning to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead. Toles slugged a three-run shot off Jeanmar Gomez in the sixth, and Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera hit a two-run homer off Grant Dayton in the ninth. Ryu pitched 5 1/3 innings and struck out nine for his first win after two years on the shelf with shoulder and elbow operations. Kenley Jansen got the final out for his seventh save.

"Yeah, it sucks," Phillies catcher Cameron Rupp said about being swept before heading to Chicago for a four-game series against the Cubs. "But at the same time, we know what we're capable of. We know we're capable of beating good teams. We showed that when we beat the Mets and Washington. We've shown that we can compete with teams, despite what people think."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Slugging at the top: Toles not only launched a three-run homer, but he also led off the first inning with a double and scored. In the series, Toles was 5-for-13 and scored five runs.
"Andrew is fun to watch," said Roberts. "He's athletic, he's strong. Maybe a little naive and it's great to see. He doesn't scare from a big spot. That three-run homer was huge. He just competes and helps us win baseball games."

Set the alarm: After leading off the top of the fifth inning with a ground-rule double, Rupp fell asleep and was easily picked off second base as the tying run by catcher Yasmani Grandal while Pivetta was trying to bunt. The Dodgers set up the play with a mound meeting after the previous pitch.
"That was one of those plays, to keep Rupp at second base, get the pitcher bunting through the baseball," said Roberts. "He's not very fleet of foot, trying to get a lead, Yasi made a great back pick. Big out."
"It was a real good play," Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said. "The problem when you're on second base, you want to get a good jump, especially when you're a slow runner -- you try to get that little edge. The play they put on was a designed play and they ran it well."

"I don't care about bat flips. I don't want to talk about that." -- Mackanin, on Herrera's big bat flip in the ninth. It cut the Dodgers' lead to two.
SOUND SMART WITH YOUR FRIENDS
The Phillies' bullpen is averaging 2.42 home runs per nine innings (20 home runs in 74 1/3 innings), which is the worst mark in baseball. Mackanin said he thought about using Pat Neshek in the ninth inning Sunday, if there had been a save situation. Neshek would have been the fifth pitcher to try to close a game for the Phillies this season.
"I won't use the word worried," Mackanin said about the bullpen. "I think I'm more concerned. I think we're going to get it together once our rotation is set in another week or 10 days and these guys start giving us the innings they're capable of."
WHAT'S NEXT
Phillies: Right-hander Vince Velasquez opens a four-game series Monday night against the Cubs at Wrigley Field at 8:05 p.m. ET. Velasquez has seen some improvement in his previous two starts, allowing six runs in 12 1/3 innings. That is following his first two starts, when he allowed nine runs in nine innings.
Dodgers:Clayton Kershaw, who gets the Monday start vs. the Giants at 7:10 p.m. PT, is at it again, with 39 strikeouts against only three walks in 35 1/3 innings, posting a 9.93 strikeouts per nine rate and a 13-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He's 19-8 with a 1.60 ERA in his career against the Giants after beating them Tuesday at AT&T Park.
