Thigh still irking Muncy; sits again vs. Rox

September 22nd, 2019

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers audibled on infielder on Sunday, pushing back his return to the starting lineup to Tuesday night in San Diego.

Muncy left Friday night’s game with mild left quad tightness. Manager Dave Roberts said that if it were the playoffs, Muncy would have indeed started on Sunday. Instead, he received a full day of rest, and the Dodgers defeated the Rockies, 7-4.

“Talking to the training staff, you’re talking about a quad, that can show itself even coming out of the box trying to get down the line,” said Roberts. “Where we’re at right now, it’s just not worth it. Playoff game, he’d be in there. To take an at-bat to help us win a baseball game, he’s still in play.”

Muncy was just getting his timing back after missing two weeks with a right wrist fracture. Matt Beaty started for Muncy at first base.

Rotation announced for series vs. Padres

With Rich Hill previously announced as the Tuesday night starter, Roberts said Clayton Kershaw would start on Thursday. The Wednesday starter is to be determined, but Tony Gonsolin threw a bullpen session after Kershaw on Sunday.

Roberts said he wants to see Gonsolin maintain his velocity in a two-inning stint. Gonsolin figures to pitch either Tuesday or Wednesday while competing with Dustin May, among others, for one of the final postseason pitching roles.
