No LA qualifying offers; Wilson among free agents
Dodgers remain interested in bringing back reliever, others with right contract
LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers did not make qualifying offers to any of their free agents Monday, so they will not be entitled to compensation Draft picks for any of those players that sign elsewhere.
The free agents are: Chris Capuano, Mark Ellis, Jerry Hairston, J.P. Howell, Carlos Marmol, Ricky Nolasco, Nick Punto, Skip Schumaker, Juan Uribe, Edinson Volquez, Brian Wilson and Michael Young.
Players the club seems to have the most interest in are Nolasco, Punto, Ellis, Uribe and Wilson.
Salary and length of contract are likely to be issues with Nolasco -- who would be the fourth starter in Los Angeles -- and Wilson, who would be a setup man despite his desire to close. Nolasco was not subject to a qualifying offer because he was traded during the season.
Punto is a gritty role player with shortstop tools, Uribe resurrected his career at a position that is very thin in free agents, and Ellis would provide a fallback if Cuban Alexander Guerrero isn't ready.
Clubs have exclusive negotiating rights with their free agents until 9 p.m. PT on Monday, after which any club can sign any free agent.
