Padres ride 15-hit parade, rally past Dodgers
SAN DIEGO -- Jedd Gyorko's go-ahead home run sparked a Padres' four-run rally in the eighth inning, as San Diego beat the Dodgers, 10-7, on Thursday night at Petco Park.
Dodgers reliever Jim Johnson allowed a leadoff walk to Justin Upton before Gyorko smashed a 380-foot, two-run homer to center field. Juan Nicasio later allowed a triple to Melvin Upton Jr. , which scored Derek Norris. Yangervis Solarte, who went 4-for-5, added an RBI double.

In his Major League debut, Corey Seager shined for Los Angeles, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Padres' Colin Rea looked poised in just his fifth career start, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out six and walking two. Rea was done after five innings, throwing 76 pitches and taking a hard comebacker from Joc Pederson.
"I thought he was very poised for a start against the Dodgers," Padres interim manager Pat Murphy said of Rea. "I think he showed me something. In all his outings this was his best one in my opinion."
Mat Latos took a no-decision, pitching through four innings. He allowed eight hits and four runs, while striking out three.
Latos didn't hide his frustration with manager Don Mattingly's decision to lift him.
"Definitely not being allowed to go deep into the ball games,'' he said. " A quick leash. It's hard to get into a rhythm when you are getting yanked out fast.''
The Dodgers are now 75-58, having won eight of their last 10 games, and maintained their season-high 6 1/2 game lead over the Giants in the National League West.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Seager's sweet stroke: Seager didn't take long to get his first Major League hit, lacing a double down the right-field line in the fifth inning. Seager then scored his first run when Pederson hit a liner off Rea's left shoulder to put the Dodgers on the board. Pederson came around on Chase Utley's double to make it 4-2.
"The first hit, that was really cool,'' Seager said. "That was my first thought where I was like, 'Wow, I'm actually here.'"

Solarte triple shy of cycle: Solarte brought a spark on offense, hitting a leadoff double in the first inning and eventually scoring as Upton doubled to drive in the Padres' first run. In the seventh, Solarte hit a 407-foot homer into the top deck of the Western Metal building. More >

Seager's encore: Seager drove in the go-ahead runs in the sixth, when his single to center field scored Carl Crawford and Yasmani Grandal to put the Dodgers ahead, 5-4. Seager then scored on pinch-hitter Justin Ruggiano's single to left field. Third-base coach Ron Roenicke was aggressive in waving in Seager and he made it easily with a head-first slide for a 6-4 Dodgers lead.
"That's a situation where they can try to let you do something and it was nice that I could get the job done,'' Seager said.

Padres' 'pen let down: The Padres had a 4-2 lead heading into the sixth inning, but the bullpen faltered, allowing five runs in the frame. Odrisamer Despaigne came in to replace Rea and allowed two singles and a walk to load the bases. Marc Rzepczynski, who came in with no outs, allowed RBI singles to Seager and Ruggiano before committing a throwing error to first base, which scored Ruggiano.

REPLAY REVIEW
In the sixth inning, the Dodgers challenged a call that Justin Upton was safe after running to second base. It appeared that second baseman Utley's foot may have missed the bag for the out. The call on the field stood and Upton was safe. Upton later scored after Derek Norris hit a double to left field.
"Actually [second base umpire Chris Conroy] told me he didn't believe in the neighborhood play, so I guess he changed the rules tonight and it is something for the league to think about, really,'' Mattingly said.

WHAT'S NEXT
Dodgers: Mike Bolsinger makes his first start since July 29 when he faces the Padres on Friday at 7:10 p.m. PT. His best start came against San Diego on May 23 when allowing just a hit in eight innings of a 2-0 Dodgers win.
Padres: James Shields, who is 1-0 with 2.70 ERA in three starts against the Dodgers so far this season, starts for San Diego.
