Bochy: Giants' coaching staff to remain intact

November 13th, 2018

SAN FRANCISCO -- While change appears imminent among the Giants, one group that will remain intact is manager Bruce Bochy's coaching staff.
Farhan Zaidi's recent appointment as president of baseball operations is widely regarded as a precursor to significant personnel shifts on and off the field. But Bochy confirmed via a text message Tuesday that he'll be backed by the same crew for a second straight year.
Third-base coach Ron Wotus will return for his 22nd season, extending his record as the longest-tenured coach in franchise history. Bench coach Hensley Meulens will reach double figures in longevity by serving his 10th year on the staff.
The duos of pitching coach Curt Young and bullpen coach Matt Herges, along with hitting instructor Alonzo Powell and assistant hitting coach Rick Schu, are approaching their second year with the Giants.
Young and Herges oversaw the Giants' most effective unit during the club's otherwise forgettable 73-89 campaign. Beginning June 1, San Francisco recorded a 3.61 ERA, fourth-lowest in the Majors behind the Dodgers (3.28), Astros (3.36) and Indians (3.53).
