DENVER -- Giants third baseman Evan Longoria was placed on the 10-day injured list with plantar fasciitis in his left foot, and the club called up right-hander Ray Black from Triple-A Sacramento before Monday's day-night doubleheader against the Rockies. Black was optioned back to Triple-A following the 19-2 victory in Game 1. He pitched the eighth inning, giving up two hits, walking one and striking out the side.

"It's a strain of the plantar fascia," manager Bruce Bochy said of Longoria after the first game. "I can't really give you any more than that until our doctors take a look at the MRI and give us a timetable. Maybe I'll have something after the game if we get some more information."

“It’s something I’ve been dealing with kind of the whole year and last year,” Longoria said on Sunday. “I never really had it kind of flare up the way it did the last couple days."

Longoria went 1-for-2 with a single and a strikeout in his first two at-bats before Bochy sent Austin Slater up to pinch-hit for him in the fifth. The Giants had been trying to stay away from Slater, who was battling a fever, but he remained in the game to play right field. Pablo Sandoval shifted to third base to replace Longoria, while Brandon Belt moved from left field to first base. Mike Yastrzemski switched from right to left field.

“Usually if I come out of the game, it’s something I can’t really tolerate,” Longoria said. “It was pretty sore by that point.”

Longoria, 33, said he’s dealt with foot issues on and off for most of his career and hasn’t found any relief by using orthotics or insoles.

“It’s just the accumulation of a lot of games and playing on turf,” Longoria said. “Like I said, hopefully we can get a diagnosis early tomorrow and just figure out what’s going on.”
