Giants Re-Sign Right-Handed Pitcher Jake Peavy to a Two-Year Contract

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The San Francisco Giants have re-signed right-handed pitcher Jake Peavy to a two-year contract, club Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Sabean announced today. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

Peavy, 33, was acquired by San Francisco from Boston in July of last season, going a combined 7-13 with a 3.73 ERA (84er, 202.2ip) in 32 starts. He went just 1-9 with a 4.72 ERA (65er, 124.0ip) in 20 starts with the Red Sox, before going 6-4 with a stellar 2.17 ERA in 12 starts for SF. Beginning July 27 (his first start with the Giants), his 2.17 ERA ranked as the eighth-lowest in the NL. Peavy allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his last nine outings with SF, posting a 1.35 ERA (9er, 60.0ip), the lowest ERA in the Majors beginning Aug. 13.

The three-time All-Star (2005, 2007 and 2012), won a World Series ring for the second-consecutive season in 2014, having also won the World Series with the Red Sox in 2013.

The 2007 National League Cy Young Award winner is one of just five active players with 2,000 or more career strikeouts. Overall, Peavy has posted a 139-111 record with a 3.73 ERA in 338 games (337 starts) in his 13-year career with San Diego (2002-09), Chicago-AL (2009-13), Boston (2013-14) and San Francisco (2014).
