Giants make moves ahead of Monday's twin bill

MILWAUKEE -- The Giants optioned reliever to Triple-A Sacramento to clear a roster spot for right-hander , who was recalled to start against the Brewers in Sunday’s series finale at Miller Park.

The Giants came out of the All-Star break with an extra arm in their bullpen, but Black wasn’t used in the first two games of this series in Milwaukee. Though the Giants will need pitching as they prepare for Monday’s doubleheader in Colorado, they did not feel they were in a position to option an outfielder, as Alex Dickerson (back tightness) and Austin Slater (fever) were unavailable to start Sunday.

Dickerson and Slater will be options off the bench against the Brewers, and manager Bruce Bochy said he hopes both will be ready to go Monday.

With right-hander Jhoulys Chacin on the mound for Milwaukee, the Giants opted to start Brandon Belt in left field and play Pablo Sandoval at first base for the second consecutive game. Mike Yastrzemski started in right.

The Giants are expected to designate Dereck Rodriguez as their 26th man for Monday’s doubleheader and have him start Game 2 at Coors Field. Jeff Samardzija will pitch Game 1. Drew Pomeranz had originally been slated to start Monday, but Bochy said he will be available out of the bullpen Sunday in case Beede is unable to pitch deep into the game.

The Giants have not yet announced a starter for Tuesday’s game.

Worth noting

Joe Ritzo, the play-by-play announcer for Class A Advanced San Jose, will make his regular-season Major League debut Monday in Colorado, filling in for Dave Flemming in the radio booth for both games of the doubleheader. Flemming will be in Philadelphia on assignment for ESPN. Ritzo is currently in his 13th season as the voice of the San Jose Giants.
