SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants finalized deals with four more Draft picks this week, announcing that they’ve agreed to terms with second-rounder Casey Schmitt, compensation picks Nick Swiney and Jimmy Glowenke and fifth-rounder Ryan Murphy.

The quartet joins first-rounder Patrick Bailey, who signed for $3.8 million on Wednesday and is expected to be added to the Giants' player pool this summer, according to MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis. The Giants will have until Aug. 1 to sign their two remaining selections from the 2020 MLB Draft: third-rounder Kyle Harrison and fourth-rounder R.J. Dabovich.

The Giants have not announced signing bonuses, but Callis reported that Schmitt agreed for $$1,147,500, under the slot value of $1,507,600 for the No. 49 pick. Callis also reported Swiney signed for $1.2 million, a tick above the $976,700 slot value for the No. 67 overall pick. Glowenke's deal is for $600,000, below the $953,100 slot value for the No. 68 pick, per Callis.

Callis also reported Murphy agreed to $25,000. The slot value at No. 144 is $379,000.

Schmitt, a 21-year-old third baseman out of San Diego State University, slashed .295/.366/.408 with six home runs and 77 RBIs over 132 college games. He also moonlighted as the Aztecs’ closer, converting 23 saves over parts of three seasons. The Giants have said they intend to develop him as a position player.

Swiney will forever be linked to Madison Bumgarner, as the Giants used the compensation pick they received for losing their longtime ace to the D-backs to snag the 21-year-old lefty out of North Carolina. 

Listed at 6-foot-3, 187 pounds, Swiney posted a 3.51 ERA over 115 1/3 innings in 50 career appearances for N.C. State, where he formed a battery with fellow Giants draftee Bailey. He went 11-1 over his first two seasons as a middle reliever before becoming a regular in the Wolfpack’s rotation this year. Swiney logged a 1.29 ERA over 28 innings and won all four of his starts before the 2020 season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Giants used the compensation pick they received for losing closer Will Smith via free agency to draft Glowenke, a shortstop out of Dallas Baptist University. The 21-year-old slashed .340/.433/.506 with 17 home runs and 100 RBIs over 139 college games. Although he’s a sure-handed defender, evaluators believe Glowenke lacks the speed and range to stick at shortstop, which could make him a better fit at second base.

Murphy, 20, was the seventh and final selection in the Giants’ Draft class this year. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound right-hander logged a 3.40 ERA over 203 2/3 innings in 30 appearances (29 starts) for Le Moyne College, a Division II program in Syracuse, N.Y. Murphy’s fastball tops out at 92 mph, but he’s able to use his command and deception to induce a lot of swing-and-misses.
