Sandoval ends impressive errorless streak

WASHINGTON -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy suggested that tightness in Pablo Sandoval's right forearm could have accounted for his overthrowing first base Saturday, which ended the third baseman's 73-game errorless streak.

Bochy nevertheless praised Sandoval, who has established himself as a legitimate Gold Glove candidate.

"That was a really impressive run," Bochy said of Sandoval's streak.

Sandoval would have had to remain error-free until late September to make a truly serious bid for the all-time record. John Wehner and Jeff Cirillo share the big league mark of 99 consecutive errorless games at third base. Sandoval didn't even break the Giants' record. That belongs to Jim Davenport, who played 97 consecutive errorless games at third base from July 26, 1966, to April 28, 1968.
