Giants weigh in on D-backs picking up Trumbo

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Arizona Diamondbacks' acquisition Tuesday of slugger Mark Trumbo from the Los Angeles Angels appeared to make the National League West even more competitive.

"Arizona got a good player, a power bat, something it needs," manager Bruce Bochy said. "They certainly improved their club with the power they got."

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the Giants inquired about Trumbo on multiple occasions but couldn't find a fit with the Angels, who wanted young yet polished prospects.

Without acknowledging the Giants' interest in Trumbo, general manager Brian Sabean said, "We don't have enough Major League-ready talent. That takes you out of [trade] opportunities such as that."
