Iglesias, McGee named July's top relievers

August 2nd, 2021

Angels righty and Giants left-hander were named the Reliever of the Month Award winners for July on Monday.

McGee is the first Giants pitcher to be named Reliever of the Month, an award that has been issued since 2017.

The veteran left-hander was unscored upon in July, throwing 11 innings, striking out nine and permitting only six of the 39 batters he faced to reach base. He hasn’t allowed an earned run since May 30.

McGee was one of four relievers to record seven saves in July, a group that also included Iglesias.

The Angels closer won the American League Reliever of the Month Award after posting a 1.93 ERA with 19 strikeouts and one walk over 14 innings in July. The last Halos pitcher to earn AL Reliever of the Month honors was Mike Mayers in September 2020.
