San Francisco Giants announce 2019 player development staff and affiliate staffs

San Francisco Giants club President of Baseball Operations, Farhan Zaidi, announced today the club's player development staff and affiliate staffs for the 2019 season.

San Francisco Giants club President of Baseball Operations, Farhan Zaidi, announced today the club's player development staff and affiliate staffs for the 2019 season. 
Kyle Haines was promoted to Director of Player Development after serving as the club's Assistant Director Player Development of Instruction last season. In his new role, Haines will oversee the player development area under the direction of Zaidi. "I'm very excited and thankful for the opportunity to contribute to the Giants ongoing strategy and development of players. I'm looking forward to working hard and building on the previous success of our minor league system alongside our dedicated player development staff," said Haines.
In addition, Mark Allen was hired as the Giants Pitching Coordinator. Allen spent the last eight seasons with the Cleveland Indians, including serving as the Lower Level Pitching Coordinator for the past two years. Antoan Richardson was hired as the Coordinator of Instruction. The former outfielder spent the 2018 season as an Outfield Coordinator for the Toronto Blue Jays. Matt Daniels was named Coordinator of Pitching Analysis. Daniels joins the Giants from Driveline Baseball, where he spent the past four years as the Director of Pitching programs. Ethan Katz was named the Assistant Pitching Coordinator after spending the past two seasons as a pitching coach in the Mariners organization

Kyle Haines -- Director of Player Development
Haines will embark on his first season as Director of Player Development after spending the 2018 season as Assistant Director Player Development of Instruction. In 2017, he served as the manager for the Richmond Flying Squirrels and was named "Best Manager Prospect" in the Eastern League by Baseball America. Haines also managed Salem-Keizer for two seasons (2015-2016). Prior to returning to the Giants, he managed the Frontier Grey's of the independent Frontier League in 2014. Haines was selected by the Giants in the 31st round of the 2004 draft. He was a member of four championship teams in the minor leagues (2004 Arizona Rookie League Giants, 2005 San Jose Giants, 2007 San Jose Giants, 2009 Akron Aeros) and was named an Eastern League All- Star at Short Stop in 2008. Haines was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the Minor League Phase of the 2008 Rule Five Draft. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and Sports Management and also has an Associate's Degree from Olney Central College. He played baseball for two years at Olney Central and two years at EIU. His brother, Andy Haines, is the Hitting Coach for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Antoan Richardson -- Field Coordinator
Richardson starts his first season with the Giants as the Field Coordinator. The former outfielder spent the 2018 season as an Outfield Coordinator for the Toronto Blue Jays. Richardson appeared in the Majors with the Atlanta Braves in 2011 and with the New York Yankees in 2014. He was originally drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 35th round of the 2005 draft out of Vanderbilt University. The Bahamian native made his Major League debut on September 4, 2011, and recorded his first career hit off Clayton Kershaw in his first Major League at-bat. In his free time, Richardson mentors youth in the Bahamas through Project Limestone, a non-profit organization he established shortly after his retirement.
Mark Allen -- Pitching Coordinator
Allen begins his first season as the Giants Pitching Coordinator. He spent the 2017-2018 seasons as the Indians' Lower Level Pitching Coordinator. Allen joined the Tribe in 2010 and was an Area Scout for four seasons before serving as a Regional Crosschecker in 2014 and the National Pitching Crosschecker in 2015. He began coaching in the Indians organization in 2014 with the AZL Indians, who won the Rookie League championship that season. Prior to joining Cleveland, Allen coached at St. Gregory's University, Northlake College, Frank Phillips College, North Central Texas College and Seminole State College. Allen played four years of collegiate baseball at Vernon Junior College, University of Texas at San Antonio and Phillips University. 
Matt Daniels -- Coordinator of Pitching Analysis
Daniels embarks on his first season with the San Francisco Giants after spending the last four years as the Director of Pitching programs at Driveline Baseball, a data-driven player development facility based in Seattle, Washington. The Richmond, Texas native was Driveline's first full-time employee and has worked with many established Major League players, including Adam Ottavino, Dan Straily, Michael Lorenzen and George Kontos. Daniels began working at Driveline Baseball after graduating from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2014, where he was a finance major and played baseball. Prior to attending UT Rio Grande Valley, Daniels attended Hill College from 2011-2012.
Ethan Katz -- Assistant Pitching Coordinator
Ethan Katz embarks on his first season in the Giants organization as an Assistant Pitching Coordinator. Katz spent the past two seasons as a pitching coach in the Mariners organization. Prior to joining the Mariners, he spent two seasons in the Angels organization as pitching coach with single-A Burlington (2013-14). While serving as the pitching coach for Harvard-Westlake (CA) High School, prior to his tenure with the Angels, he helped instruct 2012 first-round picks Lucas Giolito and Max Fried and guided Jack Flaherty and Conor Cuse in 2013 when the Wolverines won the Division 1 championship. Katz was originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 47th round of the 2001 MLB June Draft from University HS (Los Angeles, CA), but did not sign. He was drafted by Colorado Rockies in the 26th round of the 2005 MLB June Draft from California State University Sacramento. He spent four seasons pitching in the minor leagues with the Rockies (2005-08).
