Sandoval to undergo MRI on strained foot
Giants third baseman doubtful for Sunday's series finale in Arizona
PHOENIX -- Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval aggravated his strained left foot during Saturday night's 10-5 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Sandoval hurt himself during his second-inning at-bat, when he lined a single to center field, and left the game an inning later after unsuccessfully trying to beat out the back end of an inning-ending double-play grounder. Joaquin Arias replaced Sandoval and is likely to start Sunday's series finale.
Sandoval compared this episode to the game against Oakland on May 30 when he initially sustained the injury.
"It's kind of the same feeling. Sore," said the switch-hitter, who on Sunday likely will undergo his second MRI since the mishap occurred.
Manager Bruce Bochy rated Sandoval's availability for Sunday's series finale as doubtful.
Sandoval's ailing foot caused him to miss last weekend's three-game series at St. Louis. He rejoined the lineup last Tuesday when the Giants faced Toronto.
Before experiencing his foot problems, Sandoval started 52 of the Giants' first 54 games.
