Giants agree to one-year contract with right-handed pitcher Jakob Junis

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Giants and right-handed pitcher Jakob Junis have agreed to terms on a one-year Major League contract worth $1.75 million for the 2022 season.  

Junis (pronounced JOO-nis) posted a record of 2-4 with a 5.26 ERA (23er, 39.1ip) in 16 games (six starts) for the Kansas City Royals last year. Since the start of his career in 2017, he’s one of only 35 pitchers in the big leagues with 500+ innings pitched and a K/BB ratio of at least 3.25. He was also one of only 36 pitchers to make 60+ starts in 2018-19.  

The 29-year-old was drafted by the Royals in the 29th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft and has spent his entire professional career in the Kansas City organization, appearing in the big leagues in each of the last five seasons. Overall, he’s 29-35 with a 4.82 ERA (276er, 515.1ip) in 105 games (89 starts).
