November 10th, 2019

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — The San Francisco Giants have hired Chicago Cubs executive Scott Harris as the club’s general manager, President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi announced today. Harris is the 10th general manager in Giants history.

“We’re thrilled to be able to bring in an executive of Scott’s caliber to help lead our Baseball Operations group”, said Zaidi. “The combination of his breadth of experience, contributions towards building a championship-winning perennial contender in Chicago, and his Bay Area roots made him an ideal fit for our General Manager position and I’m looking forward to executing our vision together.”

"I am so appreciative and honored to join the San Francisco Giants, a storied franchise with a loyal, passionate and deserving fan base,” said Harris. “I’m humbled by the opportunity to help bring the next World Championship to Giants fans and to San Francisco, a city that has always held a special place in my heart. I’m excited to get to work with Farhan, our baseball operations staff and the rest of the Giants family.”

Harris joins the Giants after spending seven years working in the Cubs’ Baseball Operations department, most recently serving as Assistant General Manager. Under President Theo Epstein and GM Jed Hoyer, he assisted in all potential player acquisitions, contract negotiations, and player evaluations while overseeing the research and development department, the salary arbitration process, all baseball operations’ financial strategy and planning, and the high performance department. He was part of the Cubs front office that won the 2016 World Series and made the postseason in four consecutive seasons from 2015-18.

Harris started with the Cubs in 2012 as director of baseball operations after serving two years at Major League Baseball as the league’s Coordinator of Major League Operations. With Major League Baseball, he provided transaction support and analysis to all 30 clubs and worked on the First-Year Player Draft, the Rule 5 Draft, the World Baseball Classic and various industry studies within the league office.

A native of Redwood City, Calif., Harris attended Columbia Business School while working at Major League Baseball and later transferred to Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management to complete his MBA in 2015. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Economics from UCLA in 2009 and studied at the London School of Economics in 2007.

Farhan Zaidi and Scott Harris will be available to the media tomorrow, Monday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m. in the Nick Peters Media Interview Room at Oracle Park.
