Indians recall infielder Juan Diaz from Akron; Option right-handed pitcher Zach McAllister to Triple-A

CLEVELAND-The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has recalled INF JUAN DIAZ from the Double-A Akron Aeros.  To allow room on the 25-man roster RHP ZACH McALLISTER has been optioned to AAA Columbus.

Diaz, 23, has spent the entire season with the Aeros where he is batting .232 (32-138) with 7 doubles, 3 HR and 18RBI in 34 games. The switch-hitter is batting .330 (30-91, 7 2B, 2 HR, 16 RBI) vs. right-handed pitching with an .849 OPS. The Dominican Republic native was acquired on June 27, 2010 along with OF Ezequiel Carrera from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for INF Russell Branyan.  Diaz will be in uniform tonight when the Indians start a 3-game series in Chicago vs. the White Sox. He will wear #29 and will be making his debut at the Major League level.

McAllister has split the 2012 season between Cleveland and Triple-A Columbus, posting a mark of 4-4 w/a 3.96 ERA in 4 starts over two stints with the Indians (25.0IP, 25H, 11ER, 6BB, 22K, .255AVG, 1HR).  With the Clippers he has gone 3-1 with a 2.83 ERA in 6 starts (35.0IP, 30H, 11ER, 11BB, 32K, .233AVG).



RHP JOSH TOMLIN will come off the 15-day Disabled List to start on Monday, May 28th vs. the Kansas City Royals in Progressive Field at 4:05 PM ET.
