Indians invite RHP Fernando Nieve to Major League Camp
CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed free agent RHP FERNANDO NIEVE to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invitation to 2013 Major League spring training camp.
Nieve, 30, spent the 2012 season at Triple-A Albuquerque in the LA Dodgers organization, going 7-9 with a 5.96 ERA in 25 games/24 starts (119.1IP, 162H, 79ER, 38BB, 107K). For the season he averaged 8.1 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched, going 2-0 with a 2.17 ERA in 5 July starts (29.0IP, 23H, 7ER, 8BB, 30K). The Puerto Cabello, Venezuela native owns a career Major League record of 8-11 with a 4.61 ERA in 99 games/19 starts (185.2IP, 177H, 95ER, 143K, .252 AVG) with the Houston Astros and New York Mets from 2006-10.
