Akron LHP Kyle Crockett wins Player of the Week honors

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced Double-A Akron LHP KYLE CROCKETT has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for August 27-September 3rd.

Crockett, 21, was the Indians 4th round selection (111th overall) in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Virginia and has since enjoyed a rapid ascent through the Cleveland farm system. Drafted less than 3 months ago, Crockett has already made appearances for the short-season A Mahoning Valley Scrappers, Class-A Lake County Captains and most recently ended the season with the Double-A Akron Aeros. In a pair of scoreless relief appearances for the Aeros during the campaign's final week, Crockett struck out 2 batters and did not allow a hit.

The 6-2", 170 pound lefty debuted for the Scrappers on June 30 and pitched 9.1 scoreless innings before being promoted to Lake County on July 24. Crockett appeared in 4 games for the Captains (5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R-ER, 7 SO) before spending the majority of the month of August with the Double-A Akron Aeros. In 10 games for Akron, Crockett tossed 10.1 scoreless frames, struck out 9 and issued just 2 walks. Combined on the season, Crockett went 1-0 with a 0.36 ERA (1 ER/16H/24.2 IP) with 32 strikeouts and 5 walks, while limiting opposing hitters to a .184 average against. The lone run he allowed was a solo shot on July 27 for Lake County; the first long ball Crockett had allowed since his freshman year at the University of Virginia.

The Poquoson, VA native finished his 3-year collegiate career with a 12-3 record, with a 1.98 ERA in 87 games for the Cavaliers. Crockett was the 2010 Gatorade Virginia Player of the Year and a two-time State Player of the Year (2009, 2010) at Poquoson High School.

Cleveland Indians
