Columbus 1B Jesus Aguilar earns Minor League player of the week honors

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced that Triple-A Columbus 1B JESUS AGUILAR has been named Indians Minor League Player of the Week for April 4-13. The Indians Player of the Week Award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and is announced each Tuesday through the end of the Minor League season.

Aguilar, 23, is batting .417 (15-36) with an International League-best 1.266 OPS over his first 10 games of the 2014 campaign. Aguilar also leads the Clippers with 3 home runs, 4 doubles, 8 RBI and 8 runs scored. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound first baseman began the season on an 8-game hit steak, and has reached base safely via hit or walk in all 10 of his games for the Clippers. Six of his 10 games this season have been multi-hit efforts, including a 2-homer, 5-RBI performance on April 8 vs. Louisville. Aguilar has also drawn 5 walks and owns the 5th-highest on-base percentage (.488) in the International League.

Originally signed by the Indians as a non-drafted free agent on November 13, 2007, Aguilar has been a consistent right-handed power bat in the Indians organization for the past 6 seasons. Prior to batting .327 (74-226) with 18 home runs and 50 RBI in 58 games with Caracas of the Venezuela Winter League this offseason, the Maracay, VZ native set the Double-A Akron franchise single-season record with a league-best 105 RBI during the 2013 regular season. Aguilar was added to the Indians 40-man roster on November 20.
