Indians announce 2012 Minor League Awards

The Cleveland Indians today announced a pair of organizational awards for the 2012 season, as RHP CODY ALLEN was honored with the Bob Feller Award as the Indians' Minor League Pitcher of the Year, while OF TIM FEDROFF received the Lou Boudreau Award as the club's Minor League Player of the Year. Allen and Fedroff are scheduled to be formally recognized during a pre-game Spring Training ceremony in Goodyear, Arizona.

Allen, 24, pitched at 3 separate levels of the minor leagues in just his first full season as a professional, going 3-2 with a 1.87 ERA (9 ER/43.1 IP), 3 saves and a .166 average against across 31 relief appearances for High-A Carolina, Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus in 2012. The right-hander averaged 11.0 strikeouts-per-9.0 IP in the minors, tallying 53 strikeouts against just 9 walks. Selected by Cleveland in the 23rd round of the 2011 June draft, Allen then became just the second member of that class to reach the Major Leagues (RHP Trevor Bauer, Arizona) after making his debut with Cleveland on July 20. The Orlando, FL native began his major league career by tying a club record with 12 consecutive scoreless outings (13.2 IP) and went on to go 0-1 with a 3.72 ERA (12 ER/29.0 IP) and 27 strikeouts over 27 relief appearances as a valuable member of the Indians bullpen in the club's second half.

Fedroff, 25, split the 2012 campaign between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus, hitting a combined .316 (148-468) with 79 runs scored, 23 doubles, 10 triples, 12 home runs and 54 RBI in 123 games (.394OB/.485SLG/.879OPS). Among hitters in the Indians Player Development system he finished 3rd in batting average and runs scored and led the organization in base hits. Upon his June 6 promotion to Columbus he went on to hit .325 (86-265) for the Clippers with 52 runs, 14 2B, 5 3B, 9HR & 32 RBI in 69 games, finishing 4th in the International League in average, 2nd in runs and 3rd in on-base pct. (.393) and OPS (.910) in that span. The Hillsborough, NJ native is a career .296 (555-1872) hitter at the Minor League level since being selected by Cleveland in the 7th round of the 2008 June draft out of the University of North Carolina.
