Indians invite LHP Scott Downs to Major League camp
CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed free agent LHP SCOTT DOWNS to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invitation to Major League camp.
Downs, 38, ranks 5th among active left-handed pitchers with 619 Major League appearances as he has limited left-handed batters to a .219 (219-998, .287/.322/.608) average against during his 13-year Major League career with seven big league teams. He split the 2014 season between the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals after signing with the White Sox last January, ending the campaign with 17 appearances for the American League Champion Royals (3.14 ERA, 5ER/14.1IP). He led the A.L. in games pitched (81) in 2007 with Toronto and owns a career Major League ERA of 3.56 (751.1IP, 729H, 297ER, 575SO).
