Indians Make a Series of Roster Moves; Gomes & Santos Promoted, Marson on DL

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the Major League roster:

Placed CA LOU MARSON on the 15-Day Disabled List with a cervical neck strain

Recalled CA YAN GOMES from AAA Columbus

Selected the contract of CA OMIR SANTOS from AAA Columbus and added him to the Major League roster

Marson was injured in a collision at home plate on Saturday night in Tampa Bay and has been limited to one-inning of emergency duty since the 3rd inning on April 6. Today marks his first career stint on the Major League DL.

Gomes opened the year in Columbus after being optioned out of spring training on March 25 and has appeared in 4 games (.286, 4-14, 2 2B, 2RBI, 2BB, .804OPS).  He hit .407 (11-27) this spring with 5 2B, 1HR & 7RBI in 15 games after being acquired along with Mike Aviles from Toronto in November.

Santos was a non-roster invitee to Major League camp after signing with Cleveland on February 5.  He appeared in 17 games this spring, hitting .375 (9-24) with 4 doubles, 1 home run and 6RBI before being re-assigned to AAA Columbus on March 31. He has appeared in 2 games for the Clippers (0-3, RS, RBI) so far this year.   Omir can be found on page 188 of the Indians Record & Information Book.

The 40-man roster move will be made prior to game time.  Santos will wear #58.
