Indians place INF Josh Donaldson on DL; will begin rehab assignment today

The Cleveland Indians today announced the following transactions relative to the Major League roster:

CLEVELAND, OH -- The Cleveland Indians today announced the following transactions relative to the Major League roster:

Placed INF JOSH DONALDSON (left calf strain) on the 10-day Disabled List, retroactive to Sept. 1.

Donaldson, 32, begins his third stint on the D.L. this season and will begin a rehab assignment this afternoon in Triple-A Columbus, playing third base and batting second. This season, the Mobile, Alabama native has been limited to 36 games, batting .234 (32-for-137) with 11 doubles, 5 home runs and 16 RBI for the Blue Jays. He was on the Disabled List from May 29-August 30 due to a strained left calf.

The Major League roster consists of 29 players.
