Indians promote LHP Bruce Chen; designate RHP Anthony Swarzak for assignment

The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the Major League roster:

Purchased the contract of LHP BRUCE CHEN (#52) from AAA Columbus.

Designated RHP ANTHONY SWARZAK for assignment.

Chen, 37, has spent the entire 2015 season to date with the Triple-A Columbus Clippers, posting a mark of 2-1 with a 1.74 ERA in 5 starts (31.0IP, 19H, 6R/ER, 3BB, 23K). He has limited International League batters to a .178 (19-107) average against, including a mark of .157 (13-83) against right-handed batters and a .063 (2-32) average with runners on base. He currently leads the International League in complete games (2), is 6th in ERA (1.74) and is 12th in innings pitched (31.0IP). He was signed by Cleveland to a Minor League contract on February 18 and invited to Major League camp as a non-roster player. He will start today against the Minnesota Twins and will be suiting up for his 11th Major League team.
