Indians sign infielder David Adams
CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed free agent INF DAVID ADAMS to a Major League Contract.
Adams, 26, split the 2013 season between AAA Scranton and the New York Yankees, his first experience at the Major League level after six Minor League seasons. At Triple-A he batted .268 (59-220) with 11 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs and 21 RBI in 59 games, appearing in 30 games at third base, 28 games at second base and 2 games at first base while hitting .339 (20-59) in April for the RailRiders. He spent four stints with the Bronx Bombers, the first of which occurred May 15-July 8, and appeared in 31 games at third base, 9 games at second base and 4 games at first base. The Margate, FL native became a free agent on December 2nd after being non-tendered.
The University of Virginia product was originally selected by the New York Yankees in the third round of the 2008 draft. He owns a career Minor League batting average of .291 (452-1554) with 120 2B, 15 3B, 28HR & 222 RBI in 412 games (.376OB/.441SLG/.817OPS). The contact-hitter has just 290 strikeouts in 1,798 career plate appearances and was named a 2012 Arizona Fall League "Rising Star" after hitting .286 (24-84) with 7 2B, 3HR & 15 RBI in 22 games for Scottsdale.
