Indians Sign Three Players to Minor League Contracts

The Cleveland Indians today announced the signings of INF CHIN-LUNG HU, INF ARGENIS REYES and RHP WILLY LEBRON to minor league contracts for the 2012 season.  The contracts are straight Minor League deals and the players will report to Minor League camp in late February. 

Chin-Lung Hu, 27, spent the 2011 season as a member of the New York Mets organization, splitting time between three levels including a stint with the Mets where he appeared in 22 games before being outrighted to Buffalo on May 17th. In 48 games between three levels, Hu had a .161 average (16-99) with 3 RBI.  The Tainan City, Taiwan native has a career .296 average (901-3042) in the minor leagues. 
 
Reyes, 29, started the 2011 season as a member of the New Jersey Jackals of the Canadian-American Association.  In 60 games with the Jackals, Reyes had a .306 average (76-248) with 2 home runs and 29 RBI. After signing with Triple-A Columbus at the beginning of August, he appeared in 25 games, batting .313 (26-83) with 2 home runs and 9 RBI. Reyes has a .288 career minor league average (970-3372) in 11 seasons as a member of the Indians, Mets and Red Sox organizations and enters 2012 30-hits away from 1,000 for his minor league career.  He also played at the big league level for the Mets in 2008-2009.
 
Willy Lebron, 31, was a member of the Kansas City Royals organization during the 2011 season, making 32 appearances and 1 start between Double-A NW Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha. He was a combined 4-2 with 2 saves with a 3.02 ERA in 32 games/ 1 start (65.2IP, 55H, 22ER, 72K) for the year. The Dominican Republic native has a career minor league record of 8-6 with a 3.93 ERA (130.2IP, 130H, 57ER, 136SO). Following the 2011 season, he pitched for Licey in the Dominican Winter League where he went 2-3 with a 3.28 ERA (7G/6GS, 24.2IP, 22H, 9ER, 22SO).
