Kipnis exits with right hamstring injury

July 9th, 2017

CLEVELAND -- Indians second baseman exited Saturday's 4-0 win against the Tigers following the third inning with a right hamstring strain.
Kipnis hit a slow dribbler to Tigers pitcher off a checked swing and tried to beat the throw to first, but he pulled up before hitting the bag and hobbled, grabbing his right hamstring after the play ended.
The team didn't have an update after the game on how much time Kipnis -- who hit a double in his first at-bat -- might miss, but he will have built-in time off with the four-day All-Star break beginning on Monday.
"We'll kind of work through tests and so forth," said bench coach and acting manager Brad Mills after the game. "We'll know a little bit more obviously tomorrow."
came in at second base to replace Kipnis as the Indians took the field in the next inning. Gonzalez singled and doubled in three at-bats and cleanly fielded five balls in his six defensive innings.
