Dee Gordon sits after aggravating wrist

June 16th, 2019

OAKLAND -- Feeling discomfort in the bruised right wrist that recently forced him onto the injured list, Mariners second baseman was out of Saturday’s starting lineup as a precautionary measure.

Seattle manager Scott Servais said that Gordon aggravated his wrist as he slid home to score last Wednesday, one day after his reinstatement from the injured list after missing 19 games. Gordon felt a similar sensation as he slid into second on a successful stolen-base attempt Friday.

That prompted a discussion between Servais and Gordon, who’s batting .278 in 49 games. “The wrist is not 100, 110 percent [healthy],” said Servais, who installed Dylan Moore at second base against the A’s.

In other injury-related developments:

• Servais confirmed that shoulder fatigue curtailed 's injury-rehabilitation start Friday night with Triple-A Tacoma. Hernandez, who went on the injured list on May 12, allowed two runs and two hits in 2 1/3 innings. No further update regarding Hernandez, such as the next step in his rehabilitation, was immediately available.

• Right-hander , who recently endured a setback in his recovery from a Grade 2 right lat strain, should be able to resume throwing in four or five days. Servais noted that Strickland underwent an MRI that showed no significant structural changes around the injured area.
